Infertility in male means the inability of the male to achieve pregnancy in a fertile female.In humans it account for 40-50% of infertility.Male infertility is commonly due to deficiency in sperm and semen quality.Sperm and semen quality is used as a surrogate measure in male infertility.
Infertility is a wide spread problem of about one in every infertile couple. Although some people think of infertility in women is the sole reason that a couple cannot conceive or may simply add to their difficulty.
CAUSES OF INFERTILITY IN MALE
- PRE-TESTICULAR CAUSE
- This factor refers to a condition that impede adequate support of the testes and include situations of poor hormonal support and poor general health.
- This increases the risk of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism which in turn alters the gonadotropin-realising hormone.
- TOBACCO SMOKING
- Male smokers have approximately 30% higher odds of infertility.There is increasing evidence that the harmful products of tobacco smoking kill sperm cells.
- OTHERS INCLUDE: Genetic abnormalities,Excessive exposure to radiation and infections.
